4 Strategies for Coping with the Stress of Uncertainty

I wrote the piece below on March 16th 2020, just five days after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus outbreak to be a global pandemic. We were all shocked and worried, and only just starting to realize just how serious the situation was.

The world is gripped by fear. Fear of contracting the coronavirus. Fear of dying.

People are panic buying because of the fear of not having enough to keep going during this crisis. Or perhaps the fear of starving if food supplies run out.

There’s also the fear of losing your way of earning a living…

10 Easy Steps to Your Publication’s First 100 Followers

It’s more than a year since I wrote How to Start and Grow a Medium Publication: 10 Easy Steps to Your Publication’s First 10 Followers. At that time, my Medium publication, Small Steps, had just 10 followers. This has now grown to over 100 followers. While that may not seem like an enormous amount of growth, I am pleased with my progress for two reasons:

In a changed world

Life is not the same

But the love we share

Will always remain

In uncertain times

Of panic, despair

Don’t ever give up

We will get there

For now we continue

And we all battle on

Knowing that one day

This beast will be…

It's definitely not a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket. I've been a self-employed writer/editor for 15 years and I've learned the hard way that you need to have as many irons in the fire as possible. I've had some of my best clients call and cancel at a moment's notice, so you really can't rely on any one stream of income because you never know how long it's going to last. You need to keep moving and keep pushing in every direction that you can.

As for Medium, I love writing here and developing my…
