As Nan says, balance is important. I set aside certain times of the day for checking social media and email. At other times, I ignore them and concentrate on my work, my family, social activities, housework, etc, etc.

It takes time to build up a following on social media and it’s also good to build good quality, reciprocal relationships with other writers whose writing you love to read. You can’t build such a relationship with everyone and you shouldn’t feel guilty for not doing so…there are only so many hours in every day!
