Exactly! Medium — or anything else — shouldn’t be your only source of income. Having said that, writing and editing for clients accounts for about 90% of my annual income, with side projects such as Medium, eBooks and other bits and pieces accounting for the other 10%.

I’m aiming to increase the amount I earn from side projects as I know that client work can be very up and down (especially in the current climate), but, like you say, it takes a lot of time and effort to develop another income stream so that it accounts for a higher proportion of your earnings. It’s vital to do so, though, because it’s very dangerous to depend on just one source of income.
