October has arrived! Nature treats us to a wonderful display of beautiful colors — green, red, orange, yellow — as the leaves change color and fall to the ground, creating a crunchy carpet for us to walk on — or run through!

October reminds us to take care of ourselves. We put on an extra layer when we feel a chill in the morning air or we curl up under a blanket while sipping a warming hot chocolate on a cold, dark evening.

October encourages us to make some changes in the same way nature is changing and preparing for the barrenness of winter. These could be small tweaks to our daily routine or greater changes such as a house move.

Whatever you are doing this October, I hope you will be inspired by the stories in Small Steps. Below is a selection of the stories published in September.

October is the ideal time for a short break or longer holiday/vacation before the winter sets in. Before you go, check out 9 Small Steps to Make Your Holiday Run Smoother by Alfie does Medium for a stress-free time away!

If you yearn for a well-organized, minimalist home but feel like you’re drowning in clutter, why not take five minutes every day to follow Anna Riley’s Three Simple Steps to Living Clutter-Free? Then, sit back, relax and watch your favorite movie in your neat and tidy living room.

If you’re finding difficult to find time for exercise, check out 7 Small Ways to Incorporate Exercise into a Busy Schedule by Nathan Chen. I especially like the idea of going on a walking meeting!

Life isn’t always easy. If you’re going through a tough time at the moment, find inspiration from Veronica Weedon’s story of how she changed her life for the better in What To Do When Life Goes South.

The diagnosis of a chronic illness can be a huge shock and yet it can also change your life for the better. Read about the steps Grant Von Pein took to change his mindset from negative to positive in How I Reversed My Polarity.

Sometimes it’s hard to know whether you should take action in a situation or if you should just step back and let events unfold naturally. In The Paradox of Wu Wei: On Mindfulness, Balance, and the Art of Knowing When to Act, Gary Kokaisel (Pixel Floyd) takes a deep dive into this fascinating issue.

Many of us have felt intense loneliness at certain points of our lives. Saba Khan describes this feeling very eloquently in When the Divine Nudges: A Journey from Loneliness to Self-Realization and shows how we can explore our innermost selves through writing.
