“Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift.” Oprah Winfrey
Do you live completely in the present moment? Or, do you often think about the past or worry about the future?
The past is over and done with. You may regret your words or actions but there is nothing you can do now to change them.
The future is yet to come. There is no point in fearing the future, because the possible events that you worry about may never happen.
Regard Each Day as a Separate Unit
Instead, take each day as a separate unit, detached from the past and the future.
Resolve to live life to the full within that unit, without mulling over the past or feeling anxious about the future.
Embrace the Unexpected
Set yourself a few concrete goals for the day, but also see where the day leads you.
Sometimes an unexpected event or meeting may take you away from your goals, lead you to a new opportunity or enrich your day in some other way.
Such happenings should be embraced because they are part of living life to the full within the present moment.
Appreciate Each Day
At the end of each day, reflect on what you’ve experienced and achieved.
Appreciate all the good things that happened, even if they were just small things, like a lovely smile from a child, a comforting embrace or a steaming cup of hot chocolate on a cold day.
Firmly Root Yourself in the Present
Look towards the future with confidence but don’t think about the future too much.
Take each day as it comes and live life one moment at a time.
By focusing on the present moment, your experiences of life will be incredibly vivid, and you’ll feel much happier than you ever did when you were concentrating on the past or worrying about the future.
By rooting yourself firmly in the present, you’ll discover that you’re leading a richer and fuller life than ever before.
